My Great Grandfather x3 was in charge of High Fawr Farm, from 1871 (born 1850), he had a two day auction of his stock implements etc, and I have searched for a catalogue, etc of this sale any help would be greatly appreciated.

He was born in June 1850 Oswestry to Edward VAUGHAN and mother Mary (nee BOLIVER)

Thank you for all your help in advance

Hello Ben

Do you have the date of the farm sale? It was obviously after the 1891 census was taken and at the moment I can't see him in the 1901 census.

You could try searching newspapers which might have carried an advertisement for the sale. Try the Welsh Newspapers Online which are free to search.  You also have a good reason for a trip to Shropshire to visit Oswestry Library where there is a card index to their local newspaper.  Hopefully you will find a reference to the sale and also other mentions of the family from the births, marriages and deaths columns.

If you can locate the sale in the newspapers then it will tell you the name of the Auctioneer.  You could try looking to see if they are still in business just in case they keep an archive otherwise check whether they ever deposited any material in their local archives, which may have been Shropshire but may have been somewhere in Wales.

Occasionally sale catalogues survive in private hands so if all else fails it might be worth writing a letter to the present Oswestry newspaper asking if anyone happens to have a copy of the sale catalogue - it's a long shot but might be worth a try.  It was a fairly big farm to warrant a two day sale.
