I don't seek help with my Tree, rather information of just what my ancestors might have done in or around Church Stretton in their time.

My earliest ancestor was DAVID DAVIES, wife MARY and my direct line is via their 3rd child JOHN baptised at Church Stretton in 1749. All 9 children were bap between 1745 & 1762.

David and Mary were not married there and my thought is that they migrated from Wales.

JOHN was married at Stanton Lacy in 1771 giving his home Parish as Cardington.

Farmers perhaps. Would appreciate any thoughts.

The PUGH's of Bishops Castle

I hope someone may be able to help. I'm seeking information on the PUGH family of BISHOP'S CASTLE around the years 1720-1770.

I am a PUGH living in South Yorkshire and 16 Years ago my father (now 91) said to me, “you know, we have a Welsh name, I was born and bread in Sheffield like your grandfather and I have no knowledge of anyone in my family every being Welsh”. So this has been my quest for a number of years now to find the first member of my family to come from Wales before my dad leaves us.

I have managed to trace family to Bishops Castle but I have not managed to go those last few miles over the border into Wales.

So far I have traced my family line working back from Sheffield, South Yorkshire to Bishop Castle with confirmed ancestry up to (I believe) Walter…

Poyner

I am looking to connect Francis Poyner born 1765 to Thomas Poyner born 1740 at Stoke St Millborough. Is anyone tracing this family tree ?

Thank you

Allcock/Elcock ancestors

I am tracing my ancestors Thomas ALLCOCK/ELCOCK (About 1765-1845) and Susanna HARRIS (About 1770-1852) and can't find their baptism records. The earliest record I can find online is their marriage at St. Leonard's, Broseley on 6 December 1790. Their first daughter Ann is baptized in Broseley in 1791, but the next 2 boys are baptized in St. Mary Magdalene, Bridgenorth: Samuel in 1792 and Thomas in 1797. The family moved to Merthyr Tydfil, Wales by 1799, where the elder Thomas Allcock worked as a water agent. I am hoping someone with local knowledge can help me find Thomas and Susanna's baptism records since I am in New York City.

Hi Adele

I had a look and did consider the baptism of Susanna HARRIS 5 Feb 1769 at Astley Abbotts. This parish is 3 miles from Bridgnorth on the road to Broseley. She is the daughter of John and Ann HARRIS. I have since noticed there is a marriage of a Susanna HARRIS to John EVANS at Astley Abbotts in 1786 so probably not the right one.

In case you havnt seen it the marriage banns register for their wedding at Broseley 6 Dec 1790 states they are both 'of this parish'. Thomas could write his name but Susanna could not.

Still looking.....

Best wishes

Sue
