Hello, My name is Mary Anne and I am from the USA - actually from Michigan. My 3rd great-grandparents were Edward VAUGHAN and Mary COLES They were married in Leebotswood Church 23 Sep 1833. Mary was born in Leebotswood to John COLES and Sarah DAVIES 26 Jan 1806. I've been able to trace Mary's line back quite a bit more but have run into a dead end with tracing Edward VAUGHAN back further. The marriage record shows Edward was from the same parish as Mary and the 1841 Census has them living in Smethcott, Church Stretton, with my 2nd great grandfather John VAUGHAN who eventually came to the states in 1868. Edward, his father, was a coal miner in 1841. Does anyone have any idea where I can search further? I've found a lot on free BMD and Find My Past so far. I've done DNA on Ancestry, Living DNA and My Heritage and I am also on Ged.com.

Prince Rupert hotel, Shrewsbury employees 1960s.

Hi

I am looking for information regarding employees who worked in the Prince Rupert Hotel during the 1960s.

I am looking for a Spainish waitor who worked in this establishment during the summer of 1964. He may have been known as Pedro. He was around 20-30 years of age.

I look forward to jogging your memories.

Ros

Bridgnorth Library FHG

Not living in Shropshire anymore getting to Bridgnorth on a Tuesday afternoon isn’t possible so I wondered if Dave Tonks (7302) has a contact? I am particularly interested in the High Street properties project….think a distant relative may have had a shop DARRALLS

Hi Kate,

You may recall that I responded to your DARRALL enquiry on the old message forum in 2022.

The shop that DARRALL had for a short while in Bridgnorth was in Whitburn Street, not the High Street.

Looking for help from Shifnal specialist

Hello — hoping a Shifnal specialist can point me in the right direction.

I'm trying to find the baptism of a John Rixon at Shifnal, roughly 1728–1745, and especially the names of his parents. I've hit a coverage gap: Findmypast's Shropshire Baptisms seem to start around 1739 for Shifnal, the Shropshire Parish Register Society never published Shifnal (so it's not on Mel Lockie or in the Internet Archive volumes), FreeREG doesn't cover the parish, and FamilySearch's Shifnal films begin in 1813. So the pre-1739 baptisms don't appear to be transcribed online anywhere I can find.

What I already know about this John, to identify the right one:

- He married Rebekah Hand at Shifnal on 7 June 1762 (by banns), a bachelor "of this parish."

- He was buried at Shifnal on 2 December 1787.

- He and Rebekah had children baptised at Shifnal from 1764 onward (John 1764, Thomas…
