Hello,
I have been all through Ancestry.com and Familysearch.org in vain trying to piece together my family history. I know that my Great Grandmother, Florence Wilkinson, was born in Ludlow on Aug 11, 1893 and according to her marriage record to my GG John Hodgson, her father's name was William. Now, it seems that there were a heck of a lot of Wilkinsons floating around in that area at the time, and more than one of them was a William with a daughter named Florence frown . So, I am looking for one last shot at trying to pin down the proper Florence without having to order the record from the GRO.

If anyone lives near to Ludlow and would be willing to do a lookup for me for her birth record, I would be so very grateful!

Thank you kindly,
Kathy Slack

Births Jun 1893   (>99%)
Wilkinson  Florence    Ludlow  6a 573

Births Sep 1893   (>99%)
Wilkinson  Florence    Ludlow  6a 566

Births Mar 1894   (>99%)
Wilkinson  Florence May    Atcham  6a 645

As you can see there are 3 births for her, 2 in Ludlow, 1 in Atcham.

If you want to send for any births, you have to do it on the GRO site using those ref details. you are right there are a lot with same name. Sorry, dont live in that county.

Just found a Susan Hodgson on ancestry .co.uk doing your tree. Does Herbert Connelly ring a bell 1913-1988? She also lives Hamilton, Ontario.

If you aren't on ancestry, then I am willing to contact her for you. Florence's Dad William, NO Mother on though!
Angela.

Hello Kathy

Unfortunately it is NOT possible to look up Birth records in the UK. You can look at the Indexes of Births, Marriages and Deaths covering England and Wales from 1837 onwards free of charge on FreeBMD but the coverage gets patchy the further you get into the 1900's. Alternatively you can see complete indexes from 1837 to 2005 on Ancestry.co.uk or 1837 to 2006 on Find my Past.co.uk but these are both subscription sites and still only allow you to see the Indexes.

The only sure way to get the full details is to purchase a copy of the relevant certificate from the Government General Register Office Certificate ordering service. Whilst not cheap, this is cheaper than anywhere else, so don't be tempted to order a certificate from any other source because they will all charge you more.

Your only alternative to ordering a Birth Certificate is to search through the parish Baptism Register in the hope you find the family but you must remember that the Ludlow Registration District covers many parishes so it could be a long search and your only way of doing it is at your local LDS Family Search Center. You don't have to be a member of the LDS Church to use their Search Centers.
