Hello

Could anyone please tell me, if the IGI has a burial shown as Wellington, Ketley - would this be All Saints in Wellington or St Mary's Ketley? Thank you.

Hello Susie

It might help if you gave us the name(s) and date(s) of the people so we can look at the entries ourselves and then interpret what they are saying.

The church at Oakengates is Holy Trinity.

Hi Mike

Thankyou. I have 4 that give me Oakengates namely

1. Oliver Jones 6 Sept 1906        2. Henry Whitehead 4 Mar 1900

3. Emma Whitehead 15 July 1902      4. Rebecca Whitehead 23 Mar 1890

I'm kind of expecting that Henry and Emma may be buried together but I am unsure about that.

the batch number is I04369-5

Then I have 2 from Wellington

1. Levi Whitehead 13 Feb 1876       2. Noah Whitehead   12 June 1872

the batch number is I04628-3

I dont live in Shrosphire but I have been to Ketley and I have been to Wellington but I haven't been to Oakengates so I 'm very unsure about the Churches there.

Thanks again.

Hello Susie

Whilst the individual record for each person shows an Indexing reference number and a Source Film reference number I can't find any way on the new Family Search web site to establish exactly where a particular Source Film refers to so we seem to have the ridiculous situation that we have the number of the source but no way of looking up where it refers to unless I am missing something.

On the old site you could look up all these numbers and it would tell you exactly where they referred to so I am surprised that if the decision has been made to remove that facility then you would expect the information to be on the individual record.  In fact the list of results is not consistent because I notice that an entry for George Henry WHITEHEAD buried in 1847 in Shrewsbury actually specifies St Chad's which is a good job as there are several town centre parishes.

In the absence of a specified church I think you will just have to 'assume' the parish church and then check the entry by visiting Shropshire Archives and looking at the microfiche of the original.  This is a good practice anyway just in case there is an error in the indexing.

There is no known grave stone for Henry and Emma WHITEHEAD so you will need to check the original Burial Register in the hope that some form of grave reference is noted there but you should be aware that for church burial grounds you will need to be very lucky to find a grave reference.  If the people are buried in a local Cemetery then the chances are that you will be able to establish who is buried in the grave by reference to the Grave Register which is distinct to the Burial Register.

Are you aware of Ernest and Noah WHITEHEAD who appear on the War Memorial 1914-1918 at Ketley?

Hi Mike

Okay thank you. If I am honest I don't think I was expecting a gravestone but I would like to see if I can find more info re the burials as I am struggling a bit with Emma to confirm things before she was married, (I am hoping to be able to trace who is in the grave to see if she was with any of her 'own' people) so I guess a trip to the Archives it is. I'll keep my fingers crossed then for a grave reference.

I have visited the War Memorial at Ketley and seen the names of Noah and Ernest (brothers) and have now built up some research on that particular family thank you.

Thanks so much Mike, most helpful.

Hello Susie

I have now discovered how to look up the Film No and Parish details.

If you go to this page on the Family Search web site there is a drop down box at the top left where you can select Place-Names, Film Numbers and various other sources.  The link will select Shropshire for you but you will need to add a comma and then your parish name.

You can also try searching by the film number by selecting that from the drop down list and then enter your number in the lower box.
