Thomas BEARD in 1841 lived at Clock Mill, Albrighton with his wife Jemima, both said they were from Shropshire, however in 1851, Jemima had died in 1849 registered in Shifnal, Thomas now said he was from Long Oak, Gloucs.  If it hadn't said Gloucs I would have assumed it was Long Oak, Shrops.  I believe it should have been Longhope, Gloucs.  Thomas died in 1854 also registered in Shifnal.

We have been in touch with Longhope & received loads of info but no lead.    Also found someone with a Thomas B born around 1776/77 living in Longhope, but wrong Thomas!

Thomas & Jemima had 13 children, the 1st 2 were born in Donington & all the rest in Albrighton.  I've searched the PR's for Albrighton, Boningdale, Donington & White Ladies to no avail, for their marriage.  Their 1st child, a daughter Mary was born in 1800, so I'm assuming they were married in 1799/1800. I've found the baps of all 13 children.

I've searched FMP, Ancestry & Family Search for this marriage but no luck.   Has anyone any bright ideas where to go from here please???

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hello Rosalyn

I wouldn't rely on the 'Born in County Y/N' on the 1841 census. I had some relatives living in Shrewsbury in 1841 where it said 'Y' but in fact they were born in Yorkshire.

I have had a look at the Shropshire Marriage Index for your couple but there was no trace there either.

This index should cover the gaps between 1754 and 1837 in the other sources you tried so in theory the marriage should not have taken place in Shropshire if it has not shown up.

If one or possibly both of them drifted up from Gloucestershire have you thought of trying Herefordshire and Worcestershire for their marriage?

Hello Rosalyn Have you rejected the Thomas Beard who married Jemima Dickring in Stockport on 3rd June 1799 (FamilySearch)? Just checking! John

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.    I know the 1841 census is very unreliable but one just has to hope it may be correct.

Anyway I think this Jemima Dickring married in Stockport could be the one, that John Shearman suggested. See the reply I send to him.

Hi John,

Thanks for replying.

Yes we did find Jemima Dickring however there were none in the Stockport area but there were Pickrings, so we've kind of come to the conclusion Dickring should have been Pickring????      Assuming this was them we're now searching for her birth.  It's all a bit iffy though!!

Any one with any other ideas please??

Hello Rosalyn

Have you looked at the page image of the Stockport marriage which is available on Find my Past?  It tells you that Thomas BEARD was a Soldier.  Hopefully this bit of information might clarify if this is the correct marriage.  By the way, he signed his name and she made her mark.

Hi Mike,

I have now & interestingly enough there were 4 soldiers on that page!   Is there anyway you can find out what regiment he was in or anything like that?    Assuming we have the correct guy by 1800, the next year, he was an ag lab in Donington & remained an ag lab until he died in Shifnal.

Am now trying to find Jemima's bap. but not having any luck.

Thanks for replying again,

Rosalyn
