Seeking infromation on Israel Barnes, listed in Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales Census in 1851 as having been born in Coreley, Shropshired abt 1810. He married a Jane Davies from Montgomeryshire, Wales abt 1838. I have no informatation on him prior to 1851 to includes names of his parents or any idea how to begin searching. He and family were members of St John the Baptist Church, Aberdare.

Hello

The 1851 census and the 1871 census both clearly show Israel BARNES being born in Coreley, Shropshire between 1806 and 1810.  In the 1861 census his forename is spelt Iseral and his birth place just says Shropshire.

The Coreley baptism register is available on the Find my Past (subscription) web site but for whatever reason there is no trace of Israel even though there are 9 BARNS children baptised between 1796 and 1814 from two different families and 7 BARNES children baptised between 1821 and 1838 again from two different families.

It is difficult to know why Israel doesn't appear in the original parish register.  Did they forget to have him baptised or did the vicar forget to write his name in the register?  We will probably never know.

The Bishops Transcripts (BTs) for Coreley are available at the Hereford Archive and Record Centre for the period you need so it might be worth trying that source.  It is not unknown for entries to appear in the BTs that are missing from the parish register.
