I've just found records of Yockleton School Admissions for 1896 on the Findmypast website. They can be found under the "Education & Work" section, but I cannot find what Shropshire schools are covered, nor what years are on the database. Does anyone know?
The records are useful as it gives dates of admission, name of pupil, date of birth, parents name, address, last school attended and date of leaving the school. Without searching further I cannot tell whether the format of the log was the same for other schools.
The record I found was for the PRICE family, and gives their address as "The Cop". Does anyone have any knowledge of where in the parish of Yockleton this house was?

Barbara,
Many thanks for the web link. Intersting info. I'm not sure if the Price family will have lived in that particular house, as they were "merely" farm labourers, but it does help put into context the area where they were living in the 1890's.
Apologies for dealy in replying. I've been on holiday for a couple of weeks with no reliable internet service.

Hi Phil, I think this is what you are looking for in the Education collection;-
Browse colour images of admission registers and log books from hundreds of schools in Britain. Discover how your ancestor spent their school days in these fascinating and detailed records. Browse by county, school and register type. To search by pupil or teacher names use the complementary National School Admission Registers & Log-Books 1870-1914 records.
Below we have listed all the schools by county, available in this collection.
It is an extensive list and includes many in Shropshire from Abdon to Yockleton.
EDIT:
Unfortunately one can't just select the school in the first link and go to the records directly, one has to go to the records link and enter the details in the search form.
Regards
Malcolm.
Hi Malcolm,
Many thanks for the very useful information. Based on this I can see that a lot of village schools are missing (e.g. Chirbury, Clun, etc), but it does cover some areas of Shropshire that I am researching. Therefore a trip to Shropshire Archives may be required. The other thing it tells me is that subscription websites (i.e. Findmypast and Ancestry) are now getting so large that it can be difficult to find some of the fine detail to help specific searches such as this.

Hi Phil
I can't give you the details you want, but I recently found records for Meole Brace and Much Wenlock Schools for various dates between 1873 and 1891, but that was by looking up names rather than schools. I couldn't find anything for Cleobury Mortimer around that time. I can't remember exactly, but I have a feeling that the records are all pre 1914.
