Evening,

I am heading to London later this month; visting the British Library to follow up some queries in India. If I have time left, I would like to head over to TNA. Are there any records people would highlight concerning Shropshire, Montgomeryshire and Denbighshire?

Hello David

What you search for depends very much on your own family history.

Many of my ancestors were farmers so I have a particular interest in farming and the land.  Last time I was at Kew I looked up the WWII Farm Survey records for my father's farm and my grandfather's farm. These are very interesting but only of use if you have farming ancestors.

In a similar way there are one or two Land Tax records from the late 1700's at Kew. These are important because the local (Shropshire) copies were recycled many years ago.

You might get some better suggestions if you tell us briefly where your family were living and what they were doing then that information might ring a bell with someone.

If you don't already have a TNA Readers Ticket it might be a good idea to look that up in advance to save yourself some time when you get there.

Thanks for your advice and suggestion.

Like yourself, most of my Shropshire and border ancestors were farmers and they live predominantly in the western 1/3 of Shropshire.
