It has been known for a while that Shropshire Archives has been searching for a partner to host the Shropshire parish registers which were digitised in-house.

Today I noticed the following in the leaflet for the Discovering Shropshire day to be held at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury on Saturday 26 April 2014:

"Shropshire Archives and FindMyPast will be celebrating the launch of the Shropshire parish registers online."

Good news indeed, but I wonder if the availability of the registers online is connected with the proposed cuts in staff and opening hours at the archives? A pity either way, as Shropshire Archives has so much more to offer than the parish registers.

On the subject of Shropshire records going online, it is also worth mentioning that the Staffordshire records which Find My Past should also be launching sometime this year will at some point include the Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry wills. The Diocese was a large one and included much of northern Shropshire (excluding part of the north-western corner which fell within St Asaph) so the wills will be a valuable resource for anyone with ancestors in that part of the county.

St Asaph wills for Shropshire can be viewed online for free at the National Library of Wales website, and the Shropshire wills which fell under the jurisdiction of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury can be download for a fee at the National Archives website, or as part of a subscription package at Ancestry or The Genealogist.

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully this means they will be online in April, if only as images as FMP did with the Kent registers.

What about the peculiars? I know Ruyton Peculiar wills are at SA  from about 1666-1706. According to FamilySearch they have them up to 1858, but I've not asked or seen anything to suggest that in the catalog.
