With regard to Shrewsbury St Mary's parish registers I should have mentioned that they were printed up to 1812 and a copy of the printed text is freely available on Mel Lockie's excellent site.
This site also includes the text from many of the other Shropshire parish registers which were printed about a hundred years ago.
I will answer your question about my surname on your original posting.

All the Shropshire parish registers up to 1900 are on the Find my Past web site. This is subscription or pay-per-view site but you can get free access at Shropshire Archives and some other Libraries and Archives.
Click 'Search' at the top, then 'A-Z of record sets' at the bottom. Click 'United Kingdom' on the left then type 'Shropshire' (without the quotes) into the Search box. You will then be presented with a list of available records.
Use the 'Browse' option (bottom but one) and enter a specific parish to establish what records are available for that parish.
