Surprisingly, to me anyway, RUBBATHAN is a fairly commonly occurring name and not just locally, it seems to also morph into ROWBOTTON/ROBOTHAM/ROEBOTTOM, etc.
Couldn't see anything likely for your couple in Shropshire but neighbouring Montgomeryshire (code MGY and now part of Powys) is a bit of a hot spot for Rubbathon, with:-

PS Aberhafesp is about 40 miles from Frodesley.
