My husband's 3 x gt Grandfather was Thomas BURGESS bpt Hopton Wafers 4.11.1781 - unfortunately child's name is blank but from census info I believe this to be "our" Thomas.  Parents named as Richard BURGESS and Sarah.

There is no marriage record at Hopton Wafers for this couple and no other bpts.

I have learned of a bpt for a Richard BURGESS at Church Stretton on 21.12.1759. with parents Richard Burgess  and Mary (nee RUSSELL) who married at Church Sttretton 5.5.1749.

Could this be the Richard I am looking for?   What was Sarah's maiden name, where did they marry, and were there other children? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hello Ejay

I presume the baptism entry without the child's name you have found is in the parish register.  Have you considered looking at the Bishop's Transcripts (BTs) at Hereford Record Office just in case the child's name is given there?

Note the comment about reduced hours at the above office at the present time and check the 'Visit us' link. It might be a trip for you next summer.

Hello Mike

Thank you for your suggestion re Bishop Transcripts.  I will certainly try this avenue once Hereford RC re-opens.

What would we do without you!
