I have a 1878 marriage cert. for Thomas NOAKES and Elizabeth PREECE at the Parish Church Stottesdon which gives their abode simply as Pie's Nest.

Does anyone know where this is/was?

Thanks Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm,

I have found a place called The Piesnest, 1.6 miles due North from Stottesdon.

However, directions from Sidbury may be easier to follow.
From Sidbury, take the road in a generally South Westerly direction until you come to a T junction at The Highlands.
Turn right in a generally North Westerly direction. After 100 yards, the tarmac road bears right to the North but a dirt track continues West to a farm called Wallfurlong.
The Piesnest was just above that farm.
A building is shown on a 1883 map but there is no building shown on a modern map.

I used the O.S. 6 inch maps available on the National Library of Scotland web site.

Hi Gwynne,

Got it. Thanks for directions. I agree with decision to start from Sidbury. I was looking nowhere near it. It is certainly a possibility.

Yes the NLS site is great isn't it? I have it on my 'favourites toolbar' and use it regularly.

Regards Malcolm.

Edit: It still appears on 1960s map. but it's definitely not there now.
