Hi

Does anyone know where I might get information about Orleton Hall.  My wife's greatgrandmother, Emma HILL, was, according to the 1911 census, resident at The Lodge, Orleton Hall. with her son Robert although she is given as not employed at the time.  Family gossip says that she was a housekeeper at the Hall but there is no evidence for this.  She was not living at the Hall in the 1901 census but there is evidence that she was there from 1906 when her husband, Joseph, died.  I have a copy of a letter from her to her daughter, my wife's grandmother, indicating a bazaar at the Hall which was attended by "....the Princess and her lady in waiting."  Unfortunately there is no date on the letter so I don't know when this was or which princess is being referred to.  I know from this letter that the Herbert family lived at the Hall at this time and would like to know if there are any papers, photographs etc of the Hall and their employees.

Any information or clues would be appreciated.

Hello Mark

It is important that you spell the name correctly - Orleton Hall - otherwise you will find it very difficult to find information.

If you go to the Access to Archives (A2A) web site, which is part of The National Archives and put Orleton Hall in the search box you will find some references.

You can also try the Shropshire Archives online catalogue again putting Orleton Hall in the search box.

You need to be aware that there are other places named Orleton in Herefordshire and Worcestershire so you will have to filter out the references to those places as you look at the results from the above web sites.
