Can anyone point me at the location of this place. On the 1871 census this farm was run by a 45 year old widow called Anne HEYNES, with 3 children under 12. It comprised of 467 acres and she employed a farm baliff called William HOLYOAKE to oversee this. There were 3 other servants named on the farm house including my great grandmother Harriet COX. There is also a village/hamlet name of Wrickton on the census sheet.

At this time Harriet was about 3 months pregnant with my grandfather - she was (as my mother would say) - keeping it under her corsets.

Any help with the location, thoughts on a possible father etc. gratefully received. Thank you Hazel

Hi Hazel.

If you take Station Rd, Stotteden  in a westward direction, turn R at T-junct. continue past Hardwick Farm, then past Dayhouse Farm and at next T-junct, nr Hardwickforge, turn R New house farm is on R.

Click on this https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/  and enter SO 66149 81861 into the search for location box, it will show you New House Farm on modern map.

This will show a map from late 19th C alongside a modern map http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=18&lat=52.4341&lon=-2....

and this http://maps.nls.uk/view/101595334#zoom=3&lat=4139&lon=5048&layers=BT will show just an old map from 1883.

I think this is the right location, however Wrickton is some distance (3 - 4 miles) to the North towards Neenton & Cleobury North.

Regards

Malcolm

Thank you for that. It looks as though I shall have to take an excursion in that direction. Amazed to see it is so close to the A442 which I have travelled many times.

Still wondering "who is the daddy?"

Thank you very much Hazel
