I have noted from the Melocki website that the parish records for Melverley Church from 1813 are 'still in use'. I assume this means that the registers remain at the church.      Does anyone know if a visit is made to the church whether the books can be viewed?     Would you have to make an appointment?         Thank you.

I would expect to make an appointment as other churches have expected that, also you will probably have to pay an hourly rate - not sure what it is now.

Hello Kathleen

I think you may have misunderstood something on the Mel Lockie web site.  His Shropshire transcripts are obtained from the Printed Parish Registers which were compiled about a hundred years ago and (generally) only go up to 1812 but this doesn't mean that all later registers are still at the church.  To the contrary, the majority of older registers both in Shropshire and elsewhere, are now deposited in local archives.

In the case of Melverley the registers of Baptisms have been deposited to 1924, Marriages to 1836 and Burials to 1992.  See 'parish registers 2013 version.pdf' near the bottom of this page.

Only if you want to look at dates later than those above will you need to consider going to the church.  If that is necessary then I suggest you try to contact one of the churchwardens rather than the Vicar.

Thank you very much for that reply.    I wanted to see the time around 1820 and onwards to 1910. I will have to find out where I can see those records.

They are deposited at Shropshire Archives, in Shrewsbury. Only other place they are likely available at is Latter Day Saints Family History Centers.
