Does anyone have information about the Lloyd family of wheelwrights in Kinnerley. My gt gt gt grandfather, John  and his son, Samson were both wheelwrights there in 1861 and I suspect that another John Lloyd(and wife Eleanor) who was a wheelwright there in 1841 and 1851 might be the father and grandfather of my 2 known relatives. John's wife was Elizabeth and they are both still on the census records of 1881.

Baptisms for Kinnerley are in the IGI up to about 1840, same for Knockin; originals at Shropshire Archives & LDS Centres. Wills for Kinnerley are on the National Library of Wales & TNA websites from before 1858. Latter wills may be at Shropshire Archives.

I have a john Lloyd, bpt. 5 Jan 1823 @ Knockin, son of William Lloyd, gent. Though without further info it is difficult to ascertain if there is a relationship.

Thank you for this info. Researching Lloyds in this area is like looking for a piece of hay in a haystack!

I,too am looking into the family of Lloyds who were wheelwrights in Kinnerley.  I have traced back to William Lloyd (born 1807 in Kinnerley), my Great Great Great Grandfather, who was son of Edward Lloyd (Wheelwright) born 1773 in Osbaston/Kinnerley.  William is buried in Kinnerley churchyard.  Edward married a Mary Edwards on 21 Sept 1789 in Kinnerley, and they had 10 children.  One of these was called John (born 10 October 1799 at Kinnerley).  Does any of this ring bells with you?  Love to hear from you.

Gosh its so long since I looked at this site that I fear you might have stopped looking for replies.

My gt gt gt grandfather was John Lloyd(born about 1807) in Gt Ness. His wife was Elizabeth( nee jones), born about 1803 in Kinnerley. I believe his parents were John, born about 1781 in Little Ness and Eleanor Lloyd( nee Jones) born in Cockshutt about 1777. John junior's son Samson was my gt gt grandfather and he was also a wheelwright as, I believe , was one of his sons. So my John(1781) and your Edward(1773) could have been brothers which would make my John junior and your William cousins? I have tried to find death records for John and Eliz Lloyd between 1881 and 1891 as they were both still on the census of 1881 but not the 1891. The prob is the repeating of names and the common occurence of John William Richard Thomas Joseph etc. And of course Lloyd in those parts................................My gt gt grandfather moved to Chorley in Cheshire when he married Mary Woolley in 1865 and then to Marbury from about 1893. Hope this helps. would love some photos but sadly it wasnt the age of the instant/camera phone!
