I have found a relative who served in the K.S.L.I. at Knockalooe Internment Camp on the Isle of Man during WW1. Does any one have any information regarding this. Hazel
Thanks Mike. I saw the programme when it was originally broadcast - before I knew about where my great uncle served some of the War. I just wondered if anyone knew anything specifically related to the KSLI serving there. I also wondered if his age - 36 when he signed up - had anything to do with it. Hazel
Sorry this is so long after your posting here but i look here infrequently!
My Great grandfather was from Shrewsbury and served with KSLI then transferred to RDC[Royal Defence Corps]& was posted to Knockaloe where he was taken ill . Susequently he was discharged & returned to shrewsbury where he died soon after in 1917.
You could try Long LongTrail website as I think there might be people there with more detailed knowledge of KSLI.

Have you found any military records (eg War Medals) for your Uncle? They may give a clue as to whether he was deployed to another Army unit.

The unit on IoM was the Territorial battalion 2/4th as follows...
2/4th Battalion KSLI
Oct 1914 - formed at Copthorne Barracks in Shrewsbury as a second line unit and moved to Cardiff in Wales
July to Nov 1915 - moved to Ramsay in the Isle of Man
26th Nov 1915 - moved to Bedford and joined the 204th Brigade of the 68th Division
Jun 1916 - moved to Lowestoft and Yarmouth in Norfolk
Dec 1916 - renamed as the 50th Provisional Battalion
Jul 1917 - moved to Aldeburgh in Suffolk
Dec 1917 - disbanded and troops absorbed by other battalions
It seems to me that they were used as PoW guards for only a short time. Most PoW guarding was undertaken by special companies of the Labour Corps. Definitely the older and lower medical classes where shunted into the 2/4th & 3/4th Bns KSLI, whereas the 1/4th Bn did the fighting overseas. The soldier would have been a Territorial Forces man. If you send his name and details (where/when born etc) I’ll go look for him, BUT if he never served overseas, then no medals and probably no paper trail. But you never know.

Not exactly the answer to your question but if you watch the programme about Tamzin Outhwaite in the 'Who Do You Think You Are?' series you will learn something about internment camps on the Isle of Man in WWI.
Go to the BBC iPlayer to watch the programme. It is only available until the 20 Sept 2014.
