Does anyone know if there is a problem with a gap in the record of baptisms at Kinnerley around the 1790s? I can't find the baptisms of my 3X great-grandparents Thomas Clemson (1793-1866) and Mary Birch (1793-1846). Thank you.

Hello

Looking at the transcripts and some of the images of the original register of Baptisms at Kinnerley on Find my Past there doesn't appear to be any obvious gaps.

You could try looking at the Bishop's Transcripts (BTs) which are at Lichfield in case there is a difference between them and the original register but most (if not all) the BTs should be on Family Search so you should try there first. Click the search button to start.

Don't forget to be flexible about spelling just in case that is causing you a problem and there is always the possibility that they were baptised elsewhere for some reason. Strangely there is a Thomas CLEMSON baptised at Broseley in 1789. Some earlier Broseley registers to 1750 are available on the Internet on the Broseley Local History Society web site.

I presume you know that as well as Kinnerley in Shropshire we also have a completely different place called Kinnersley or Kynnersley.

Thank you Mike. It is after discovering the wonderful Shropshire records on Find my Past that prompted me to go hunting for more detail but strangeley hit the same wall at the same time with Thomas and Mary. The Clemson family had lived in the Morton/Crickheath area for many years and Birch also crops up in the Knockin/Kinnerley records frequently and in fact there are serveral other Birch/Clemson marriages.

I'll keep digging! David
