I am trying to find any information on my HUXLEY ancestors. John HUXLEY was born in Prees in 1844 and lived at Moreton street. Before 1871 he moved to Newcastle under Lyme and married Ann RICHARDS. His dad was also called John but 2 different census' give 2 different dates of birth for him. 1791 and 1801. John senior married twice, his 2nd wife was Elizabeth DAVENPORT. His father was called William but I have nothing on him.
Can anyone find any info on John (senior) or William please.
I am coming to England early April and hope to visit Shropshire archives where you have a desk or come to a meeting. Thank you

Hi Stephen,

Have looked on Ancestry and your John was baptised in Prees on 2nd February 1845 and his mother was Elizabeth. He married at Woolstanton, Stafford in 1870 to Ann RICHARDS and by 1891 was a coalminer, widower with 4 children living in Newcastle under Lyme. I will see if I can find his father or grandfather. Hi Stephen,

A bit more. Please be aware that there are lots of HUXLEYs in Shropshire and many of them are called John!

Your John Junior's birth appears to have been registered in Wem District in the December 1844.

Your John Senior's baptism appears to be in Prees on 3rd October 1802.

There is a photo of Prees on Ancestry from the Francis Frith Collection. I believe you will be able to access pictures of Prees on their website at www. Francisfrith.co./uk.

Hope this helps. Cannot find a Wiiliam at the moment Hazel

FindMyPast was free last weekend, I went through all John HUXLEYs born about 1801 and I think I have found mine but as for his father William I found nothing even on the 1841 census and parish records. Hope I can find something when I visit the records office in early April when I come to England for 2 weeks
