Hello
I am looking for information on Sarah Anne PHILIPS born 1886 in Clun and died in 1945 (Clun) aged 59, lived in 3 Guilden Down, Clun, Shropshire in 1911 census.
Married Ambrose HOLCOMBE in 1919, Son was John William Holcombe who worked on a farm on Bicton Hill.
If possible burial site location, also information on PHILIPS side of family
regards,
Jonathan
Hello Michael
Thanks for finding the time to reply to my post.
I searched the two cemeteries in Clun and could not find any marked grave, so assumed that it may be an unmarked grave.
Do you know how I would search the burial registers?
regards,
Jonathan
Hello Jonathan
Normally you would need to visit Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury to look at the Burial Register but unfortunately in your case it appears the register is still in the parish which makes it much more difficult. I would suggest you try to contact one of the Church Wardens rather than the Vicar.
Mike
Hello Mike,
Thanks for the additional Information
Best Regards,
Jonathan
Hello Jonathan
Your relative is most likely to be buried in the Cemetery, The Green, Clun. If they were Methodists they were probably buried on the left hand (Craven Arms) side of the main path when you enter the cemetery. If they were Church of England (C of E) they were most likely to be buried on the right hand side of the main path, the portion nearest Clun town centre.
There is no known grave stone for your relatives so your only hope is to view the Burial Register in the hope that it might contain some reference to the burial plot. It is purely a matter of luck whether the Vicar at the time entered a reference.
