Nice stuff, Angela. A global search of the surname in IGI for Salop shows, from many hundreds of private, lower-case entries, that it has been extensively studied. Many relate to periods later than normal cover. Others go back long before the start of any registers - may be based on established pedigrees, or just speculation (such as some quaint fliers such as for "Mrs Ralph de Pitchford" 1198).
One moderen private entry is the marriage 23.6.1863 at Dawley Magna Absalom Pitchford (aged 22) and Rachel Tudor (aged 20). Another, "real" entry: bap of that Absalom 8.11.1840 at Dawley Magna, son of Timothy and Honor.
That couple are in 1881 Census (per Family Search for free) at Coppice House, Dawley, he an unemployed coal miner, aged 70, she aged 68, both born in Dawley. (A grandchild with them).
Their marriage not in IGI nor in FreeBMD, any county, so likely to have been before July 1837. SFHS marriage index not yet consulted. This Timothy (there were others in the period) bap 9.9.1810 at Dawley Magna, s of Stephen and Ann. Real entry.
No, Martyn, you do all of the legwork and have the expertese, I just utilise the records I pay into to try and help others.
Nice to be nice isn't it? Have a good day.
