Please could any one help me, my grandmother Elsie BODEN died on the 3rd September 1920 at the Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in Shropshire. Her death certificate states the Registration District of Atcham in the county of Salop, she was residing in Broseley at the time, but do know they were living in Lancashire as this was where my father was born 18 months previously, my grandfather Joseph BODEN was born in Shropshire and most of all his family were there. ( don't understand why they came here) I am looking for where she is buried, would she be buried in Broseley or would he have taken her back to Lancashire, have looked and looked with no luck, so information would be grateful. Maureen.

Hello Maureen

The possibility of your grandmother being buried in Lancashire can probably only be considered if the family were in a fairly good financial position because I would guess that it would have been quite expensive to have a body moved from Shropshire to Lancashire.

Unfortunately the Broseley Burial Register after 1878 seems to still be at the church so your only way to establish if she is buried there is to contact someone at the church.

Because she died in Shrewsbury there is a possibility that she might be buried in the Cemetery in Longden Road, Shrewsbury.  You can search their records on microfiche at Shropshire Archives.  To learn what the cemetery records include have a look at the Guide to sources used at Shropshire Archives then scroll almost to the bottom of the page to the link Shrewsbury General Cemetery.

Just one final point - I presume the death certificate doesn't mention anything about the Coroner?  If it had then there would almost certainly be a newspaper report of an inquest.
