Hello

I have recently made a connection with the GENNO (and variants) name. I believe that Margaret GENO married John ROBERTS, 11th May 1714 in Kinnerley and that they are my 7 x great grandparents. The marriage record states that they were both of Edgerley.

I have found a baptism in Kinnerley Parish for a Margaret GENNO for 2nd Feb 1691 (born 11th Jan) daughter of Abram of Edgerley. There are other baptisms and burials for children of Abram/Abraham, but no mention of his spouse.

I am aware of GENOW's in Pontesbury, and indeed a baptism on 17th Feb 1647 for an Abraham son of William and Joane GENNOW.

I am just wondering what is the likelihood of this being 'my' ancestor given the distance from Edgerley? Would folk of that period of time travel to Pontesbury to baptise and marry? Would this have been their parish, or perhaps Kinnerley was a later parish, or early records do not exist for the parish?

Any information would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Dee

The late Martyn Freeth deposited his pedigree of the Genno family at SA (Ref XLS20951). This may however relate mainly to the Benthall family of that name but it may be worth checking out.

Dee, sorry this is a late response! The Geno line is also mine (my Mother is a Gennoe) although I have not researched it as thoroughly as some. I know that Richard Geno of London gifted Kinnerley Church with a communion cup in 1607 - one they still use to this day and which I have visited. It would appear that most Geno's stayed in this area but then branched out quite sporadically throughout Shropshire - my directs being mainly from Dawley.

It could well be the same Abraham but it is difficult to tell without sifting through all the BMDs to match him up. He could of moved for work or moved for a pre-arranged marriage to another family?

Thanks for the heads up from bristolloggerheads, I intend to check out Martins work at the archives now!!
