I have recently been looking at my family history which has centred around the Corbet Arms pub in Upton Magna in which my great grandmother and her siblings were raised. One of my great grandmothers much loved brothers Wilfred Trevor Gibbs was born 1895 and they grew up in the pub together. In 1930 he moved to Australia and was never heard from again, his family thought he had died. I spent a lot of time tracing Trevor's movements and it turns out that he settled in Mackay Australia and had three children, but never again contacted his family. He died in 1950 from heart problems when the youngest of his children was twelve. I have since managed to trace his daughter Colleen who is now in her 70's. She is desperate to find a photograph of her father as their family has no record of him. My own family also don't have any photos and I am hoping to be able to track down a photo of Trevor Wilfred Gibbs whilst he lived in Upton Magna. I belive that he attended the local school and was wondering if anybody knows how I could access the old school photographs. I have also heard that Upton Magna had a football team and wondered if we might be able to find Trevor in a team photo. If anybody has any information or suggestions please let me know.

Sorry, can't help directly even though live only 1 1/2 miles from the pub. But might I suggest repeating this request - verbatim-- as a letter to the Shrewsbury Chronicle ? They like this sort of thing. You may of course get what you want here meanwhile. Mail to kbennett@shropshirestar.co.uk

There was, I believe, a bowls club, possibly also tennis, at the pub in 1930s. Trevor no doubt a bit young for the former.

There are a few places worth trying when looking for photos in this circumstance.

1. Australian passport applications should have a photo if he had one
2. Australian criminal records if he got himself locked up.
3. Possible WWI records
4. School photos, sometimes at Archives or maybe still with the school? You can also order some school photographs from the photographer. This company has a list of the ones they have taken:
