Hello.....I believe it was John PENLINGTON, my mother's cousin but we are not 100% sure. He was found by the side of the railway line near Bettisfield, we believe in was in uniform, which one we do not know, it could be home guard.....John Penlington on Bettisfield church grave records said he died in 1941 aged 59.....we are looking for a report in a local paper as we believe him and his family lived in Newtown.   So it was a mystery to what he was doing there so I've been told by someone who was born in Bettisfield and still lives there by my uncle who still lives in the cottage where my mother was born..........his wife stopped at my aunt’s cottage in Bettisfield while the inquest was going on...As I live in Herefordshire I cannot just pop in to Shrewsbury.......so any help would be great......Debi

Hello Debi

You would do better organising yourself a day trip to Oswestry where they have a name index to the local paper in the Oswestry Library. It might well turn up additional references to your family including possible births, marriages and deaths.

In ref. to the above at Oswestry, there is a family history help group on Friday from 1 at the library. If you can get in contact with them, I am fairly certain they will look the name up for free. Though Bettisfield is a little far from the radar of the Advertizer in that period. Also worth checking is the Whitchurch Herald & Wrexham Advertizer. There was a paper for Wem-Ellesmere, but I am unsure of the dates.
