Help needed with burial information of my granmother Elsie BODEN, she died in 1920 at the eye, ear and throat hospital in Shropshire. It states on her death certificate that this was registered in Atcham in sub-district of Shrewsbury and they were at 13, Mill Lane Broseley, Wedlock. On the 1911 census she was in Gorton Manchester with her mother and sister, i do know that she was born in Lancaster as also this is where she was married in 1916. The only thing i do know is my grat granfather lived in Shropshire and this was also where my granfather was born in Madeley, Shropshire What i would love to know is where my granmother Elsie BODEN is buried, as would love to visit her grave, would be internally grateful for any information.    Gratefully Maureen

Hello Maureen

Whilst deaths are indexed and fairly easy to find unfortunately there is no such indexing for burials. The Shropshire FHS have transcribed and indexed most of the churchyard gravestones and the list of surnames (no forenames) can be found in the 'Online Databases' above.

From the information you have given I would expect your grandmother to be buried in the Broseley area, possibly in a churchyard or one of the local cemeteries. Because you know the exact date of death it might be worth looking at local newspapers just in case her death has been reported and possibly the place of burial mentioned. You can view newspapers at Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury or the British Library Newspaper Library in London.

It might help if you gave the name of Elsie BODEN's husband and his date and place of death. Sometimes gravestones only have the name of one person on them and of course many people don't have a gravestone at all. Have you checked with your living relatives to see if any of them know the answer?
