Little Isle
My Great Grandparents Alfred and Mary EDWARDS lived in Little Isle at the bottom of Clee Hill during the first World War, and were still there around 1940. My mother remembers visiting them when she was a child.
Unfortunately, I do not have the name of the house. I would like to know if there are any existing maps of the area, and how I could find out if the house is still standing.
This is a picture of the house taken around 1930.
Many thanks

Hello Sarah
In your message you say that you don't have the name of the house but in actual fact it is most unlikely that it will have had a name during the time your family was living there.
The picture you have is probably your best bet to locate the cottage but it would mean visiting the area and walking round the little lanes looking for distinct features like the position and shape of the windows and doors and don't forget to look at the chimneys because they will be visible from a distance.
Little Isle shows up on the modern Ordnance Survey maps at map reference SO 601 743 where it is shown on the east side of the B4214 which itself runs south from the A4117 at Cleehill.
Unfortunately Google Streetview does not include the narrow lanes which make up Little Isle so your only hope is to have a trip there and just walk round and see what you can find. Bear in mind that many of the cottages will have been modified in the last 50 - 100 years but this shouldn't prevent you finding the correct one.
All the best.
Michael
