In 1944 Josephine Daisy BAINES of St Martins married John COX in Oswestry, her father is recorded as John William BAINES(deceased), from further research there appears to have been a surname change from POWELL to BAINES even amongst male POWELLs as in a record of the 1939 register. I cannot find any record of a Josephine D BAINES (born 17/ may / 1921) but there is a Josephine D POWELL (mother MORGAN) born 17 may 1921 in Oswestry. Can any help in identifying why and perhaps how surnames were changed
