Hi there :)

Well my partner’s grandfather isn't into receiving Christmas presents but is very keen on his family history. So I have decided to find out as much as I can about his family.

So I began with Ancestry and have come up with names and locations but unfortunately not a huge amount of information.

The furthest I have managed to trace back the family is to a William Goucher, born in 1801 in Shrewsbury. He also married a Jane Phillips. There is an 1851 census showing him to be living in Frankwell, Shrewsbury and that both him and his 2 sons were carpenters.

Not being from that area myself I haven't got a clue on where to start in order to find more information??? Then I came across this page and was wondering if any of you wonderful people would be able to help me find out as much information as I can.

The family don't move away until 1900's, where they go to live in Staffordshire.

I have information of a James Goucher, born in 1832, and at some point lived Castle Hall/Hill? I believe he was the son of William so potentially where he lived if that is in Frankwell?

When he was 19 it looked that he lived with "Soke" Family, James Soke was a grocer and tea dealer and James Goucher was his assistant.

When James got married he moved to 30 Tower Place in Shrewsbury (no idea where that is) and was a seed merchant’s commercial traveller.

At 68 he still lived Market Street
At 79 he lived 7 Victoria Street, Castlefields, Shrewsbury.

Also later on, possibly James son, there was another James Goucher, I can only see as far as 1911 census and up until that point it shows him living at School Boat House, Kingsland, Shrewsbury as a shop assistant, he later moved to Stafford, Staffordshire.

I know that there is a lot of information here, but any help you could give me on this family or the area in which they lived I would be extremely grateful :)

Thank you!!!
