I have traced my family tree back with certainty to a John JEFFREYS, who was born on 25 Sep 1793 (to a Thomas and Mary JEFFREYS) in Ellesmere, Shropshire and was baptized on the 4 October 1793 into the Church of England.
However, I have been told that my particular line leads back a good hundred years or so earlier, to a brother of George JEFFREYS, 1st Baron of Wem (who acquired a reputation for harsh judgements after the defeat of the Monmouth Rebellion).
Has any local historian or genealogist done any work on the family of George Jeffreys, I wonder? It would be quite interesting to know whether there is any truth in the claim.
