Our next Talking Family History LIVE free event will be on Saturday 3 October at Cross Houses, nr Shrewsbury.
We can announce that the topics and speakers for the day are:
“Don’t you know there’s a war on? – Shropshire in the Second World War” - Dorothy Nicolle
The talk includes evacuees, the way the whole county served as a storage depot for anything from food to ammunition etc, the work force (largely women), hospitals, rationing and the lead up to D Day
The History of Medicine - Dr Mike Jenkins
Exploring the origins and evolution of medicine and the health challenges experienced by our ancestors as well as the innovations that have supported and led to modern medicine.
'Could be worse’ - Church Stretton Local History Group
In 2021, members of the Group researched the inmates, vagrants and three staff members who were in the Church Stretton Union Workhouse on the evening of the census of 3 April 1881. They traced their lives, the reasons they were in there and the life they led once inside creating a biography for each person. This talk will include some of the stories they uncovered.
