Shropshire Marriage Index on CD-ROM (as of 12 Mar 2008) This CD-ROM is the first edition of a marriage index for the Shropshire. It has been compiled from a number of resources. Two indices, Lewis and Gwynne, have been donated to the society following the deaths of their compilers and Chris Potter is incorporating data from these into his own computer based index. People who have seen the other SFHS indexes, Burials, Quarter Sessions and 1851 Census will find the software familiar with its simple surname search and an advanced search option. The database includes almost 60,000 records and in addition to basic information, bride, groom, parish etc. includes, for many marriages, witnesses, occupations and other details where given. A particular effort has been made to include marriages not on the IGI. For many parishes the coverage is from the start of the registers to 1837.
