This is a family history true story leading to the last public hanging at Shrewsbury Jail in 1868.  John Mapp hung for the murder of our Great Great Grandfather’s daughter Catherine Lewis.  Steve is an artist and historian from North Cheshire married into the Lewis family.

Telford Libraries' Community History Day

For the third year running Wellington Library is set to host a Community History Day to celebrate all that is great about all kinds of history.

Community History Day itself is being held on Saturday 1 March at Wellington Library to coincide with Wellington Town Charter Day celebrations so it’s set to be a busy day for the borough town.

On the day anyone visiting the library between 10am – 2pm will be able to chat with a variety of local and family history groups from the Wrekin Local Studies Forum about the history of the area.

We will be there with all our CDs, a selection of local interest books & maps, our computer databases and a team of volunteers all on Stand 34 in the S.O.G section.

Martin is the World's tallest Town Crier, luckily he is our local hirsute Town Crier, who does local ghost walks, has appeared several times on TV, doubles as Hagrid and opens our Open Day.

A short AGM will be run at the start of the evening, chaired by our freshly Knighted President!
