SFHS - Microfiche of Original Parish & Non-Conformist Registers (For Members Only)

HISTORY:

In 1997/8 Shropshire Records & Research undertook the filming of all the registers in their possession that had not been previously filmed by the Mormons, - they also refilmed some registers where the Mormon filming was poor. This resulted in over 2,000 microfiche being added to their collection.

Our Society assisted in the funding of this project in return for a full set of the resulting microfiche and permission to copy the originals for our members to purchase. Sadly, the permission to copy the originals was withdrawn in 2001.

However, the Society still holds a full set of these fiche which they are willing to consult on members’ behalf and a considerable number of duplicate copies which are available to loan.

The following list shows the content of ALL the fiche we hold.

Those which are available to loan are highlighted thus.
Each fiche available to loan is numbered and its content is provided in detail.

LOAN ARRANGEMENTS

(U.K. MEMBERS ONLY)

U.K. members may loan up to 4 of the numbered fiche at any one time for a maximum period of one month.
There will be a charge of 50p for each fiche loaned + a 50p contribution towards post & packing.

All requests must be accompanied by a cheque for the full amount due, made payable to the ‘S.F.H.S.’ (i.e. £1.00 for 1 fiche, £1.50 for 2 fiche, £2.00 for 3 fiche or £2.50 for 4 fiche.)
At the end of the loan period they must be returned to the Society, in their original condition, using the enclosed, stamped, addressed, plastic envelope together with the original cardboard insert for support. Please ensure that the edges of the return envelope are sealed to avoid damage in transit.

CONSULTATION OF FICHE NOT AVAILABLE TO LOAN

Chris. is willing to consult those fiche which are not available for loan, on your behalf, provided that you can be reasonably specific about the date/dates of the event/events you are seeking.
Please bear in mind that:

These fiche are not indexed
Many of the earlier registers are difficult to read
‘Blanket searches’ for specific surnames cannot be undertaken
Your Membership Number MUST be included in your request

Whilst this service will be provided free of charge she will reserve the right to refuse to undertake anything that will prove to be too onerous.
