Members' Help Wanted - March 2006
Henry PARRY and Anne HUGHES

This couple set up farming at Blaen y Cwm in Glyn Ceiriog Parish with their eldest child, also Henry, being born in 1766.   Keith Jones has  drawn a blank in finding Henry and Anne’s marriage.   His researches show Henry Snr b 1737 at Llangollen with Anne b 1738 possibly working in Llangollen prior to their marriage.
One of their children, Mary Parry, was born 1771 and married Richard EVANS in 1791. She died in 1801 aged 29 at Llanarmon, leaving four children.   Her younger sister, Ann, was pressed into service looking after the children and eventually married Richard.   Where and When?
Another daughter Margaret Parry born 1778 married Thomas EGINTON in 1802 and died before 1821. As Eginton is not a local name, where did they go after marriage and where is she buried?
Can anyone offer any help or advice on the above items?

Baptism of Richard BEDDOW from Ellesmere

Anne says she is earnestly seeking the baptism of one Richard BEDDOW in either 1803 or 1813.   The reason for the uncertainty of dates is that on his death certificate in 1840, he was stated to be 37, whilst the entry for his burial at Ellesmere Parish Church stated that he was 27.    While his baptism is still shrouded in mystery she does know that he married Margaret EDGECUMBE on 3 July 1834: again at Ellesmere Parish Church.   The couple had four children, Mary Anne b 1834, Richard b 1836 (my great-great grandfather), Jane Elizabeth b 1837, and George b 1839: all born Ellesmere.    Richard senior died of tuberculosis at Beech House, Ellesmere, while working as a canal agent for the then Ellesmere Canal – later Shropshire Union Canal.

Matthew HOWELL and his Shoemaker Family

Pauline is looking for information on her HOWELL family.   She has traced the line back to Matthew Howell, born about 1768, but has no idea where.   He was married at Holy Cross and St. Giles, Shrewsbury to Mary JONES. The couple had five children, the eldest of whom was Joseph, born 1794 and married to Elizabeth BOSTOCK in 1817 at St. Chad's Shrewsbury.   They had a son, Henry born 1826 and married to Mary EVANS from Trewern, Montgomery in 1846.  The family generally appear to have been shoemakers.   It would seem that Matthew arrived in Shrewsbury from elsewhere. If anyone has any information or ideas re these people, Pauline would love to hear from them

SKYRM/SKYRME/SKIRM

Ian would like to know if anybody has any information regarding the name SKYRM/SKYRME/SKIRM. During his research in Pembrokeshire he has managed to trace a SKYRME family back to the Marches Court in Ludlow in the mid  c16. They were clerks and attorneys in the Marches Court. Additionally, on looking at the area surrounding Ludlow, he noticed in the parish of Diddlebury an area called SKIRMAGE. Could anyone help Ian as regards the location, history and origin of this area?
