Calling all GRIFFITHS’!
William GRIFFITHS and his father George
Like many others, I daresay, I have a William GRIFFITHS Shropshire ancestor. Mine was married at Wellington in 1860 to Selina BICKERTON. His marriage certificate says that his father was George GRIFFITHS, a labourer. Try as I might I am unable to get back past this point. In the 1861 , Wellington, Census return William’s birthplace was given as Ryton. In the 1871 Liverpool Census the birthplace was given as Ryton of XI towns (sic). The ages given in these returns and on his 1879 death certificate points consistently to his birth being circa May 1834 to May 1835. I have cast my net fairly wide in the obvious ways to find William and his father, George, but without success.
I wonder if any member may perhaps have come across William and his father George?

Missing 18th C BROOMALL Daughters.
Ralph Evans who sent in the 17th Century Bromhall Documents (SFHS Journal June 2005, page 51) has traced one of the members of his BROOMALL Family to Albrighton, Salop (The one near Wolverhampton). This was when the BROOMALL and EVANS family joined with the marriage of Ralph’s 5 x Gt. Grandfather Daniel EVANS , an Excise Man. He married Frances BROOMALL at Albrighton Church in 1763, by licence, £100 bond. The BROOMALL’s had moved to Albrighton, perhaps from Newport, where John BROOMALL , schoolmaster, Frances’s father married Ann ADDISON in 1738. Dr. Trevor Hill, one of our members, has informed Ralph that John BROOMALL had three more daughters all married at Albrighton.
1773 Mary BROOMALL married Edward PRYCE, linen merchant of St. Giles, London £500 bond.
1776 Sarah BROOMALL married John WIGGIN, a Saddler of St. Mary’s Stafford. £500 bond.
1778 Ann BROOMALL married Evelyn Daniel HIGGS, Gent, £500 bond (Possibly a resident of Albrighton)
Has any member any knowledge of these daughters’ later whereabouts?

Information on the parents of Thomas LEE, 19th C Chemist from Wem, SAL
Seeking information as to the parentage of Thomas LEE, Chemist in Wem, died March 20th 1878. In 1840 Thomas married Margaret LEE daughter of William and Margaret LEE of Ellesmere where William was a saddler. They had one child, Edward Thomas LEE, my grandfather. Margaret died in 1853. Thomas then married Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of George Wilson, a confectioner of Wem. George was born in Llansaintffraid, Wales and Elizabeth in Ellesmere. According to the records Thomas and Elizabeth had twelve children.
The 1871 Census says Thomas born at Pool Head, Wem. First Marriage certificate lists father as Samuel LEE, Farmer. Second marriage certificate says John LEE, yeoman. No Samuel LEE family at Pool Head but was home for many years of John LEE family. Grave stone in Aston Street Cemetery lists Thomas’s birth date as November 1st, 1813. If correct he couldn’t fit into the John LEE family. However, all census records, ages at marriage and death point to an 1811 birth.
In 1851 census he is 39 and has a brother and shopman, Joseph, aged 40. John and Mary LEE neè CHIDLOW/OE had a son Joseph, baptized in 1810. Thomas could fit between Joseph and baby, George, born and died in 1813. Was Thomas their son or someone else entirely? Does anyone have LEE or CHIDLOE records? Will gladly reimburse postage or expenses.
