Hello all. First post so bear with me!

I am researching my mothers side of the family, LINDOP

So far I have gone back as here: Edwin Lindop (my grandfather), William Henry Lindop (gg), William Bufton Lindop (ggg), John Lindop (gggg). Wiliam Bufton and John were both born in Shropshire. William Bufton in Pendley(?), John is listed as from Oswestry.

William Bufton (B) Lindop born c1837 d1909 - Born Pendley, married twice, moved around a bit but ended up in Chester.

John Lindop born c1801 listed as Inn Keeper in Ellesmere (Willow St?) in 1841 census and then later as a Porter in canal company living in Chester in 1851. He married twice and his second marriage in 1856 (aged 55) lists a Thomas Lindop as his father.

So I am looking for records pertaining to Thomas Lindop, presumably born late 1700's. Not sure if he was from Oswestry or not, that's guesswork based on where John was born?

Any help greatly appreciated as I am a little stuck with this one now and all my sources are either drying up or giving me multiple returns that make little sense to me.

Any other information to add some flavour to the story of the later generations would be good. I have some summary sheets for each generation that I compiled that give a good picture of each persons life if anyone wants those.

Many thanks, Paul.

Hi.  Have you had any luck with your quest for the Lindop family?  I happen to be the gg grand daughter of an Elizabeth Lindop and Thomas Teggin.  Elizabeth's father was a Thomas Lindop.  Their marriage was at St. Martins near Oswestry.  It took me ages to find.  They lived at the Perthy, which is between Ellesmere and Oswestry.  If you need any further info by all means ask.

Hi Elaine,

Sorry for the very slow reply. This search dropped off my radar a little but I'm back looking into it. Any information you have would be very welcome. It sounds like Thomas Lindop may be the same one I'm looking into. If you know any more about his children / marriages etc, please let me know.

feel free to drop me a line to my e-mail p.modern@yahoo.co.uk

Many thanks, Paul.

You can find a lot of records relating to this family on FindMyPast:

http://bit.ly/1J3fgG2

The site also has marriages and burials.

From what I remember, the Lindops came from Selattyn. I have seen records for the family going deeper into Wales and the names also occurs around Shrewsbury as minor gentry. There is a lot of variation in the spelling: Lindop, Lindup, Lyndab and other similar renderings occur alternatly up to relatively recent times.

Still a good few Lindops around Oswestry.
