Hi I wonder if anyone can help.
I understand that some pages from the above P.R. were destroyed , does anyone know the approx dates of the missing sections?
I am particularly interested in 1760-65 . IGI list baps from all these years but am wondering if it is complete.
Any information greatly appreciated
regards,
Colin

Hello Colin

I think your question is probably answered by a pencilled comment on the front of a transcript at Shropshire Archives which reads as follows, "Transcripts (incomplete) of portions of registers taken out of the River Tern into which they had been thrown in 1881."

On the next page it lists fifteen portions of the register between 1726 and 1812 taken out of the river and these include 1758 - 1767.  Looking at a few pages of the transcript it is obvious that some parts of the original register pages were either damaged or missing so that only part of a line (left or right part) could be read.

I would guess that the IGI probably includes all that is available but it won't tell you where the gaps are.  If you wish to check page by page the transcript is available on the fee paying Find my Past web site.  If you have a subscription this link may take you to the Stoke on Tern references.

Hi Mike,

Many thanks for your most detailed reply.

looks as if the date I am interested in falls within the problem pages but I will try the site you suggest to see if it is possible to glean any clue from the scraps salvaged.

thanks again and regards,

Colin
