Shropshire Marriage and Burials Indexes

Just over three weeks ago I sent off an order for the Shropshire Marriage Index CD ROM. To date it has not arrived and the cheque has not been cashed. Having not ordered anything from SFHS before I don't know how long these things take to be processed once an order has been placed (and I do appreciate that the work is done by volunteers). There is nothing on the order form along the lines of "please allow xx days / weeks for delivery." Should I place another order, or wait a little longer?

Regarding the new edition of the Shropshire Burials Index, can anyone tell me how many more burials this includes compared with the Shropshire coverage of the Third Edition of the National Burial Index?

Thanks,

Steve

Hello Steve

I ordered my copy of the new version 4a of the Burials Index just after you and I am still waiting for mine. We are in the height of the holiday season (although you wouldn't think so from the weather) so we may have to wait a little longer.

Cheques are banked in bulk to reduce bank costs so that might not get cleared through your bank for a short while but it will go through in due course.

If you look on the home page of this site there is a panel about the new Burials Index stating it now contains a total which is over 414,000. This compares to 176,000 in the NBI v3. In addition you should note that the Shropshire Burials Index includes all the information found in the register entry whereas the NBI data has some detail missing because of the national policy for that index.

Thanks for that, Mike. The Burials Index sounds like a must-have.

I ordered the burials 4a CD on 9th of this month and was wondering the same thing. Do you think it might be dispatched this week?

You will all be pleased to know that the latest version of the Burials Index is now being posted out. Mine arrived a few minutes ago.

Thank you Lyn, much appreciated - my SMI CD arrived today. I think it has already resolved one mystery in my Atcherley family tree, and I suspect that it will fill in a few more gaps as my research continues. The coverage of parishes missing from FamilySearch / IGI coverage (such as West Felton) is extremely helpful.

Hi  I dont know what your name is so I can't check if I have received your order.  I certainly haven't posted or received an order from anyone called Morrison.

Just a note to say thanks for the speedy processing of my orders for the Shropshire Burials Index (arrived yesterday a week after I ordered it), and The Parishes and Townships of Shropshire (arrived Saturday, less than a week after I ordered it). The SBI is a fabulous resource and has come just in time to help me prepare for a visit to Shropshire Archives.

Is this the same CD that's on the SHOP of this site as I had thought to send for this, but this one is from 2008 that's £10 non-members, if I order it, do I just ask for new edition and is it the same price?

Hello Angela

The Burials Index has recently been updated to Version 4a and this is the version you will receive if you order one. At the moment the Publications List (PDF) that you have been looking at has not been updated to reflect the new version.

Many thanks Mike for that. I saw it on the home page after I'd posted my last message, I usually only go straight to the Forum page.
