Hi Guys.

I hope someone may be able to help please.

My motherinlaw is 90 this year and I'm trying to find any information to put a history board together for her. She is the last of her generation still with us and I would like to gather as much as I can for her and also for our grandkids so they can see their own young history come alive.

The leads I have show Stanton Lacy, and Haytons Bent are likely to be their local area.

Her mothers maiden name was Dorothy Winifred SANKEY DOB approx 1908, her brother was Cecil Edwin SANKEY DOB approx 1911, her father was Caleb SANKEY DOB approx 1878, her mother was Catherine Sarah SANKEY.

I believe Caleb's father was Edwin SANKEY DOB approx 1837, and that Edwins father may have been Thomas SANKEY Dob approx 1808.

Any leads, information or pointers which may help will be wonderful and thanks in advance.

Graham,

Do you subscribe to the Ancestry website? If so you can find various other people who are researching the Sankey family tree (search on Caleb SANKEY born 1878), especially one called "Morris Family Tree" that has numerous source references and goes back to Edwin SANKEY and his probable father Thomas. I took a quick look for baptisms of Edwin in 1837 and Thomas in 1811 but without success, which made me wonder whether they spelt their surname differently in 1800's.  It may be beneficial to take a detailed look at Parish Registers for Stanton Lacy (e.g. Findmypast website)  looking for variations in spelling of surname.

Hope that helps a little

Phil

Graham,

Another thought. You could try looking on this website which covers Parish Registers for Stanton Lacy: http://www.melocki.org.uk/salop/StantonLacy.html#vI

I haven't searched it extensively but did find an 1811 baptism for Mary Sankey, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Sankey.

Phil.

Many thanks for that I will pursue the pointers you have given. I had thought of the web based companies such as Find My Past and Ancestry etc, however as a pensioner I have to prioritise where the cash goes, so I’ll root around first, get as much info as I can, then make a choice.

Thanks again for you time and help.

Graham.

Graham,

If you live close to a major library try them as they may have free access to Findmypast and Ancestry.
