I am researching the GOODALL family. They lived in Wentnor and Church Pulverbatch.  William died and was buried in Church Pulverbatch in 1902 and Martha nee MORRIS died in 1905.  They were both in their early 50s.  Thier son, my grandfather,Thomas left England after that and moved to Australia. I would be grateful for any information about the GOODALL families in this area.

Hello Linda

Are you aware of the gravestone on your grandfathers grave?

The inscription reads, "Affectionate remembrance of William GOODALL who departed this life June 5th 1902 age 51 years. He is not dead but sleepeth."

I would guess that his widow Martha organised the stone and its wording but when she died no--one felt inclined to add her name on the stone so it only mentions William.

Thank you very much Mike.
My family and I visited Church Pulverbatch in 2007 and were very happy to find the grave of William Edge. I remember the graveyard was quite overgrown.  It was quite a lovely gravestone, with a little angel motif, and I took a photo of it.
The Goodall family are quite hard to research.  There seems to sadly be no photo of William or Martha, and virtually no record of their lives.  I know that they were meant to have lived at one stage at Brook Cottage at Church Pulverbatch.  We drove around the little village trying to work out where that might have been, but could only guess.
My mother, who died five years ago, tried for many years to research her heritage....her grandparents and their family, but found out very little.  It would lovely to one day see what they looked like.
Surely photography was available in that area at that time, but perhaps when they passed everything was lost.

Hi  Linda,

I don't know if you have had much success with the GOODALLs but I think I may be related to you through the GOODALLS of Ludlow, a large family of whom I have knowledge including William who was my great great uncle I think.

My great great grandfather was Thomas John GOODALL born 1840 and a wheelwright master in Ludlow. He was born in Wentnor.

Please let me know if this is the correct family , I think it is.

Regards,  lorlors
