I am trying to find out some information regarding my ancestors, MULLARDs of Cressage, in particular the deaths of Susan MULLARD age 36 died 6th April 1892 and her daughter Ethel aged 8 either the same day of the day before. Possibly they were killed in a fire. Does anyone have this information? Many thanks

Hello

This family have a grave stone at Cressage. Go to the back of the church and it is in the first row beyond the building, slightly to the left.

Thanks for the reply Mike

I have been to the grave which is why I wondered why they died the same day, if it was an accident or illness.

thanks

Jo

Shropshire Archives might have newspapers (original copies or on microfilm) that you could check for a news story, if the deaths were the result of an accident which was considered newsworthy that might yield some further information. The best bet looks like the Shrewsbury Chronicle, for which the Archives has coverage from 1772 to date. (Salopian Journal / Eddowes Shrewsbury Journal coverage ends 1888 and Wellington Journal coverage doesn't start until 1901.)

(On the subject of newspapers, the Last Chance To Read website - www.lastchancetoread.com - includes editions of the Salopian Journal, from around 1800 up to the 1830s. Credits have to be purchased to view full articles, but a lot can be gleaned from the free preview snippets. Obviously this won't help with your quest for info on the Mullards.)

The alternative is to order the death certificates; both deaths were registered at Atcham in the June quarter of 1892, volume 6a, page 439.

Susan MULLARD was my great grandmother, she died from Meningitis as did her daughter Ethel. When the family returned from Ethel's funeral they found Susan dead.

My ancestors were the MULLARD blacksmiths in Cressage.  My father has done the family tree and traced it back to Edward MULLARD (born in 1749 and married in 1774), there were two more generations of Edwards (married in 1814 and 1851).  He's found various birth and marriage certificates.  The final Edward's son William (married Harriet DAVIES in 1890) was my great grandfather; his sister Phoebe FINCH  spent her later years in Cressage.  My Dad remembers William.
