I wonder if someone out there can help me with my 'brick wall'. I cannot find the marriage of my 3gr grandfather WILIAM PECKOVER, which would have taken place about 1813. He came from a long established family, centred around Charlton-cum-Newbottle in Northants, he and his wife Elizabeth had a string of children baptised there. Family History Societies have done searches for me in Northants., Oxon., Bucks., but to no avail. I have seen a family tree on Ancestry stating her name as FIZER, but don't know where they got that info. from. However coincidentally later in the 19th. century, a younger Peckover marries in the W. Midlands into a FIZER family that seems to originate in Shropshire. Has anybody come across the family?
Janet Wild, Stalybridge, Cheshire.
Thanks Mark, I am always sceptical about the birthplaces given on the census, very often the form was completed in the absence of the person one is interested in and other members of the household may not have had an accurate knowledge of everyones exact birthplace. Also there is the issue of transcribing indecipherable handwriting, I have seen some mistakes. Yes lots of Facers and Fishers in Northants, but none of them marrying a William Peckover unfortunately!
Your interest is very appreciated.
Hi Janet,
I am hoping you see this post. You won't know me but I am also researching the Peckover family history. My mother came from the Peckover side and my Grandfather was William who was a miner in Kingsbury and also served in WW1. I also have difficulty tracing William and Elizabeth's wedding from 1813 but I keep trying. If you wish to contact me,please get in touch on my email address.
Regards Charlie Thomas.
Charlie, I have forwarded your email address on to Janet.
Many thanks for that.Hopefully I will hear from her.Charlie Thomas
Elizabeth was buried 16 Jul 1844 in Newbottle and her age was given as 53.
That gives her a birth year of about 1791.
Northampstonshire is given as her county of birth in the 1841 census.
No Elizabeth Fizer in Northamp but plenty of Elizabeth Facer and Elizabeth Fisher.
