Mary Powell was born in 1832 in Ellesmere. Her marriage certificate ( married 1862 ) shows her father as being George Powell ( stonemason ).However the 1841 census shows that Mary and her siblings were in the Ellesmere Union Workhouse , but there is no trace of father or mother ( Jane )in the census so one assumes that they had possibly died. I'm trying to be put in contact with anyone else who's researching Mary Powell or any of her siblings.

Hi this is what I've got ;

On IGI here is her birth father GEORGE POWELL mother JANE, ST MARTINS SHROPSHIRE.

MARY POWELL was christened 30 December 1832. Other children could be; [ON THE 1841 CENSUS YOU MENTIONED, THESE CHILDREN ARE ON THERE TOO!!! SINAH IS AN UNUSUAL NAME ! These fit in with dob's]

1. SINAH POWELL International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 28 MAR 1830 Saint Martins, Shropshire, England

2. GEORGE POWELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 24 MAY 1835 Saint Martins, Shropshire, England

[POSSIBLIITY THIS ONE DIED, AND A NEW GEORGE WAS BORN]

3. GEORGE POWELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 09 JUL 1837 Saint Martins, Shropshire, England
4. MARY POWELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 30 DEC 1832 Saint Martins, Shropshire, England

"ST. MARTIN, a parish in the Upper division of the hundred of Oswestry, county Salop, half a mile S.E. of Chirk. The Ellesmere canal passes through the parish, and is carried across the valley of the Ceiriog by means of an aqueduct, near Chirk, where it enters Wales.

I think GEORGE POWELL may have died in 1841 but can't find him on the 1841 census. JANE isn't on that 1841 census. She could have died in about 1839, there are a couple of JANE POWELLS died then in OSWESTRY.

Poor children all ending up in the workhouse !

Hope that this has helped.

Angela

Hi, Angela, thanks for supporting my suspicions ( i.e that Mary's parents had both died ).
