Hi, I am trying to find information about my great great grandmother, a Mary GIBSON nee DOWNES, from Cockshutt, near Ellesmere, who married firstly John GIBSON who died in 1860 and then James BRACEGIRDLE (BRASSGIRDLE), they had 4 children, most of whom were born in Oswestry, Shropshire, any information would be most welcome.

Hello Colin, James BRACEGIRDLE was my Gt Gt Grandfather. He was a widower when he married Mary GIBSON nee DOWNES at the age of 49. They had 4 children....Margaret 1864-?, Charlotte 1866-1883( died in Huddersfield whilst with her half brother John), George 1873-1874 and Thomas 1870-1947. Despite much looking we can find no record of Margaret after 1881 but we know she was seen by Thomas in Oswestry in the 1920s. He gave his father as Richard BRASSGIRDLE, farmer on his marriage certificate to Mary GIBSON (DOWNES).

Looking at the Shropshire Baptisms on the Find my Past web site (subscription or fee payable) there is an entry for a Baptism on the 14 Jan 1831 which reads, "Mary & Joseph twin children [of] Charles & Charlotte DOWNES [of] Cockshutt Labourer".
