I have a transcipt (in Excel) of much of the parish registers and by searching the right event pictutres are available on Findmypast. What is puzzling me is that in the ealy days each year starts in April and it would appear that events between Jan and March are showing in the wrong year.
Any comments ?
Hello
Until 1752 England used the Julian Calendar with the Legal year beginning on 25th March but in that year we changed to the Gregorian Calendar with 1st January becoming the first day of the year. This is a very simplified explanation so it would be useful to you to look up proper explanations on the Internet.
By the way, have you ever wondered why the tax year runs from 6th April to 5th April in the following year? It is connected to the above and the fact that 11 days were missed out of the calendar in September 1752. Well worth exploring.
