My 3 x g.grandfather is SAMUEL LAWRENCE born c. 1791 in one of the villages near Wellington.  He married ELIZABETH EVANS.  I've been unable to find his baptism anywhere, On some census it says he was born in Hadley, on others Lillishall.  He and Elizabeth were married in Wrockwardine.  I live in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England but, even when the archives re-open doubt I will be able to visit.  I don't drive far any more.  If anyone can help I would appreciate it very much, thank you.

Hello Pam

Looking at the Shropshire Baptisms which are available on the Find my Past (subscription) website I can only see one entry for a Samuel LAWRENCE c.1791 and that is for "Samuel son of Jane LAWRENCE". The date has been transcribed as 24 July 1791 but the original entry is so difficult to read that may not be entirely correct.

You will note that no fathers name is included in the entry so the mother, Jane must have been a single woman.  The baptism took place at Norton in Hales which is north east of Market Drayton and about 16 miles north of Wellington.

As an aside, my 3x Gt grandfather (Thomas Lawrence) married a Sarah Sides in 1828 in West Felton. . Her mother was Jane, who married a John Sides. Jane's maiden name was Lawrence!
