Hi there, I am trying to trace John William COOKE born 1847 married to Sarah Ellen BRIGHT.
They married in 1870 but in the 1871 census she is living with her father in Broughton. They are together in 1881 at Churncote Farm, but John William COOKE disappears between 1861 when he was at Woolverly Hall Wem and 1881 at Churncote.
I am trying to find out what it was that took him away, Did he join the services perhaps?
I am going to visit Shrewsbury archives in a couple of weeks to look for answers, but if any one knows anything that would be a great help.
His son also John William married Ethel Muriel PICKERING and they are my great grandparents, so I am related to both The BRIGHT and PICKERING families . I would love to get in touch with anyone who knows more about those families too.
Thanks Mel

Hello, if it is the John William Cooke born in Ellesmere, then John is listed in the 1871 census as John W Cook ( no "e") and he was staying on census night with his parents Joseph and Margaret. Best wishes, Jason
